Penis Serratus was created in response to the concept of "vagina dentata"-- the vagina with teeth that symbolizes male fear of emasculation by women(a la Freud). Penis Serratus symbolizes female fear of division and segmentation by men. The piece is installed in the drywall, as an integral part of the environment. When a viewer touches the steel balls, the contact drains the body capacitance (the small electrical charge that we almost invariably have) of the viewer and the blade snaps to an erect position-- quite startling, really.
